Plans for Project Life 2015

Scrapbooking wise, 2014 was a crazy, insane, mind-blowing, extremely happy year for me. When I started doing Project Life in 2013, I had no idea the talented and supportive community I was diving into and where this hobby would take me. I'm so thankful for each one of you; the readers, the followers and the friends I've made along the way. I'm also thankful for all of the memories that these albums hold.

A quick recap: in 2013, I documented in a weekly 12x12 format. I filled three 12x12 albums and I most definitely was trying to find what worked for me. I enjoyed the weekly format... I had staple cards (title card, quote card, cork board card, week in review card) and those helped me fill the large pages. I most definitely will go back to 12x12 in a few years. I think it's a great size if you have a family to document.

This past year, I documented in a 'go with the flow' 6x8 format. I loved it. I loved the smaller spreads, they were so easy to fill. Perhaps too easy to fill as I filled four Studio Calico Handbooks. Four. My decision to switch to a smaller size stemmed from my lack of space in my apartment. I had hoped to fill only three albums but I can't count and ended up actually needing four. As you can see from the picture below, they're filled and almost completely free of bulky embellishments. You can even see where I used a flair badge!

Now for the concrete details and the things I hope that I can do.

Album Size + Page Protectors: I will be switching (again) to 9x12. My original plan was to use 12x12 white faux leather albums by Becky Higgins. I went so far as to already buy two of them and cut down a bunch of 12x12 page protectors into 9x12. I will be starting the year off with those. Once Studio Calico comes out with their 9x12 albums (sorry, I don't know any secret info like release dates or prices), I will be using those along with the SC brand page protectors. I'll be sticking with my beloved all 3x4 page configuration. But will be using the all 3x3 and full 9x12 ones as well (more on that below). Note: only subscribers will get the first opportunity to pre-order the albums/page protectors.

Journal/Filler Cards: I will be continuing to use the Project Life cards from Studio Calico's monthly kits. If you aren't a subscriber, I recommend subscribing if you can. Getting my kit each month is so much fun and I love that everything flows together and bonus, you aren't overwhelmed with hundreds of cards and multiples of the same design. I will be using regular grid cards to. I'm also going to embrace *wait for it* cutting cards up. If one doesn't quite work for my spread, I will take my gold scissors to it and make it work.

Photos: As I have the past two years, my iPhone will be my main camera. I might be able to convince my brother into letting me borrow his Canon DSLR camera though. I will keep printing at home using my Epson XP-610 printer and Staples brand 8.5x11 matte photo paper. I would like to include more black and white photos.

Weekly or 'Go with the flow": Just like this past year, I'll be continuing with my monthly 'go with the flow' approach. I will have a full page divider to show where the new month starts, as well as actual dividers that I made - which you can see here.

Other Things I'll Continue: including my Instagram "likes", I love including these. Hand-stitching pockets using gold thread. Selfies, obviously. And, of course, there will still be lots of gold and sparkle.

What's New - Videos: Yes! Videos! I'm all set up to make process videos or any other scrappy kinds that you guys might want to see. You can leave a comment below or give me a shout on Instagram to let me know what you'd like to see! I made my first process video that will be up on the Studio Calico blog soon and if you want a little teaser, I posted one here on Instagram.

What's New - Traditional Scrapbook Layouts: Yup! I do traditional scrapbook layouts too! I have done some over the year but never posted any and now I will be! I have posted some here on the Studio Calico website. I'll be doing layouts sized at 9x12 to match with my Project Life spreads. This way I will be able to incorporate them into my 9x12 albums. So excited that Studio Calico will have full 9x12 page protectors!

What's New - Polaroids: Blame Taylor Swift for this one, but I need to include more of these adorable little pictures. I have an Instax camera and obviously, I forget to use it. Note to self: move camera to more visible spot and - better yet - throw it into your purse some days.

What's New - Less Hoarding: This is so hard for me! I love, love, love love love to hoard my stuff. But I hoard and then forget I have this amazing stuff, so I just continue to hoard and then forget. It's a vicious circle and it must stop.

What's New - Adding more text + using a date stamp: This is something that I wanted to do last year and while I did add a bit of text I all but forgot about my date stamp.. I need to date stamp things more! Guys, help remind me of this one, please!

And there you have it! Not changing too much because I have a good rhythm going and I don't want to mess that up by trying to do or be something that I'm not. I'm excited to start my third year of documenting!

  1. Cool. Your photos are amazing. Good luck with your plans.

  2. Can't wait to see your spreads this year. You're very inspiring to me since I too am a single female of similar age and it's nice to see someone else who uses project life without kids or a partner. I will be using the 9x12 size too this year and look forward to getting some ideas.
Look forward to watching your process videos. Happy New Year.

  3. Love seeing what you are up to! I recently found you through Studio Calico and I love the fact that you're a single gal scrapbooking life. It really gives me inspiration to get back to scrapbooking in a more simpler way and that even without a partner or kids…we still have a great story to share with others!

  4. I love your plans and I think I might copy the one or the other. :-) I like that you are doing monthly spreads and especially the monthly full page divider spread (LOVE it!!!). I noticed PL in the middle of 2014 and I really wanted to do it so badly but then I was totally overwhelmed. But I tackled it in the end: Dec 31 and Jan 1st have been the two dates I completed around 32 weeks. Crazy!!! They are not as pretty as yours but I will get there 2015 ;-)
Thanks for your inspiration Tracy, have a good start into 2015! Looking forward to your stories and ideas.

  5. I haven't been able to find a 9x12 album. Wher are you guys getting them from?

  6. Hi Tracy, I saw your video on Studio Calico and I love your style. I too love Project Life and have done it for a few years now. I love the Project Life kits from Studio calico and am setting a goal to stay up to date on my Project Life this year! Are you a designer with Studio Calico or do you work there? I'm also trying to work on my blog and get recognized. Do you have any advice for someone like me? My email is Thanks!

  7. Girl! Your style is so killer. You are such an inspiration to me. <3 Can't wait to see what 2015 brings you.

  8. Thank you for sharing!! I love all the topics you addressed.
